Art Summaries (2019—2025)
Here's to nine years of drawing!.. Man that's a long time commitment, and one I wouldn't ever want to drop honestly. I've collected these art summaries since 2019, but I joined the art scene online around 2016 on DeviantArt just to mess around with my sister.
2017 is when I began to hunker down and created my Tumblr art account, installed Fire Alpaca and began drawing on a tablet I used mainly for Osu. The art was uh, interesting, and I think I only made a handful of art posts in that year.
I abandoned FireAlpaca and digital art on my desktop in favor of Medibang on mobile devices. I drew OCs that revolved around my head, tried to make OC MVs, and the like (As animation memes were picking up traction, however I never fully committed to making a full blown video with the proper elements all together. Rest in peace all of my WIPs.)
2018 is the REAL kicker though, and what I firmly believe was when I started going buckwild when it came to drawing. I think from 2018 up to 2022-ish, I drew almost every single day. Makes me ponder if I should make an art summary for all of the doodles circa 2019-2025, considering they're categorized in separate folders when it comes to archiving my art.
2018 is also when I discovered Adventure Forward 2: Points of Conflict on Roblox; Not the proudest thing I've said but unfortunately I latched onto that game for reinforcing my love for platformers. I didn't realize it was a spiritual Mario rehash, but that's a discussion for another time. The community was super small at the time (literally 4 people who regularly posted), so I jumped on board and made my own contributions. It was super fun! However, I'm way too lazy to seek out my earlier AF2 from 2018-ish. And that's exactly why the art summaries start from 2019 and not >2018 (Plus, my older art is damning when it comes to trying to find a concrete date for it.)
2019

Main Interest at the Time: Roblox (Super Paper Roblox, Adventure Forward), Object/TVHeads
Program and Methods: Medibang, IbisPaintX; Phone; Finger
Inspirations: gaycyalm (also known by mozart-tt), spatcult; Adventure Forward fandom in general
Maybe it's nostalgia hitting me, but 2019 was a charmed time for my art. I wasn't exactly critical of what I was doing, and that was the fun of it!
Stylistically, I drew inspiration from mozart-tt, especially the way they drew eyes and their methods of coloring / texture to a degree.
Not much to say other than I like many of the pieces here. Sometimes I miss my old OCs too -- They didn't have a story and were made solely to look cool. And to fuel my obsession with space back then.
November is my favorite piece, followed by July and April.
2020

Main Interest at the Time: Pokemon, Adventure Forward, Minecraft YT
Program and Methods: IbisPaintX; Phone; Finger
Things I learned / Anything Notable: This is retrospective lesson I learned, but don't draw for things you don't like or follow the crowd, I'll be so real, there were multiple times I didn't feel happy drawing because I felt obligated to post.
God. 2020 was a year. Very much a year. If you recognize the contents of the Minecraft Youtuber posts I am so, so sorry. I'm not proud of myself either.
From 2019, I branched out into my own style and fiddled around with what I could get away with, therefore leading into a summary that's kind of all over the place? I certainly had my fun with line width and coloring. (2020 was when 'hyperpop' found prominence online in art, I think.)
I told this to my sister while I was working on this blog, but you can tell I was having fun drawing whatever up until it hit December. That was one of the only things I drew because I was severely art blocked and an old mutual suggested an art trade. I was scratched my head over it and it shows. :-(
Lots of ups and downs for this one. The process for August was more fun than seeing the product of it now. February, July, and September take the cake for me.
2021

Main Interest at the Time: Fire Emblem, Sky COTL, OCs
Program and Methods: IbisPaintX; Phone; Finger
Things I learned / Anything Notable: I took an interest in drawing armor due to the nature of FE designs! Was a fun side quest, and it still helps me even to this day.
Inspirations: 0yukii_089, town_h0use
2021 was like a factory reset to the soul and by god, am I glad it happened. This is also, for better or worse, when I was introduced to gacha game hell in the form of Fire Emblem: Heroes. Absolutely gorgeous art from a plethora of artists, and that inspired me to push what I wanted my art to be: ...More anime / cutely stylized. (Ironically, I don't consume much animanga.) You can see it in the way I began to draw eyes, I fell in love with how much sparkle and range you could truly fit in.
I'm sure I was mildly influenced by a corner of Instagram artists who rendered vaguely akin to the 'jelly' artstyle at the time, but leaned into cartoonish or cutesy, colorful works. I genuinely can't describe it, nor pin a proper name to the idea of this style (I think that concept is ridiculous anyway), but you would understand if you looked at 0yukii_089 and town_h0use's works. In fact, the brush I used for January, March, and December was a custom brush made by 0yukii!
I look back on 2021 fondly, I think the fuckery from 2020 established what kind of colors I like to use.
This is also the first evidence of me obsessing unhealthily over a character (Shameful) I really liked Ephraim Renais Fire Emblem. Know that this pattern is applied to my OCs now.
I wouldn't be able to choose a favorite piece for 2021. I'm still proud of most of them.
2022

Main Interest at the Time: Sky COTL, OCs
Program and Methods: IbisPaintX; Phone; Finger
Things I learned / Anything Notable: Took an interest in heavily rendered works during this, had no idea how to apply it.
If 2021 was a factory reset that cleared all of the unnecessary clutter to my art, 2022 was a lobotomy that had my brain matter leaking out up until September. (March and July are forgivable but unfortunately bunched up with 2/3rds of the year.) By far the year I had the worst start in, but the tail end of it established my style for the upcoming years.
Gun to my head though, you can't force me to say what was going through my head from January to August. One part of it might've been due to burnout (Speculating... on myself) and I believe the other part of it to be because I wanted to render how everyone else was doing it. Like the 'jelly' artstyle, many artists posted their speedpaints with color blocking and other painter-like methods which I wanted to follow, but I was afraid of going outside the lines.
The atrocious color palettes for all of these are unforgivable though, I became a blending mode warrior. I genuinely don't know what happened. By September I wanted something new and made my own custom brush that I loved using, and went back to the conventional sketch > lineart > base > shading method.
After some mulling and comparing with my doodle file for 2022, I think it's safe to say a lot of the art here was muddled or rushed mainly because I was having more fun with quick sketched scenarios of my OCs. Forgivable.. I guess? Not really. I can't fathom this. Never ask me what happened in 2022.
On a brief note, July is an extreme outlier: I drew that one on FireAlpaca!
September and October are my favorite pieces from 2022. Thank you Xanteke for pulling me out of whatever that loss was.
2023

Main Interest at the Time: Vocaloid, Project Sekai, Sky COTL, OCs
Program and Methods: IbisPaintX; Phone, Tablet; Finger, Stylus
Things I learned / Anything Notable: In a sense, I learned how to study my favorite artists and artworks.
Are you noticing a trend? I feel like I am because 2023 was another peak for my art. I refocused my lens again on the art I love looking at, and that first came in the form of Kanade's card "Faintly Glowing Elpis". Then it happened again, and again and again, there was a distinct emphasis on Project Sekai honestly. Here's the whole list of pieces that are redraws / studies:
- January: Redraw of Faintly Glowing Elpis
- February: Rin-Chan Now!! Album Cover feat. Tenebris
- April: "He will get brain damage" Art Trend feat. Tenebris
- May: Venom Album Cover feat. Xanteke
- June: Samsa Album Cover feat. Lua
- July: Heavily inspired by Deemo Album Art for Platinum by Sta feat. nullmi's Ixora
- August: Kyofuu All Back Album Cover feat. Auro
- October: Tene Outfit Design inspired by the designs seen in Not a Devil by Deco*27
- November: Redraw of the meme Anime Girl hiding from the Terminator feat. Seitirth & Maomaotou
- December: Redraw of Journey Album Cover feat. WxS Hatsune Miku
Good grief. I remember struggling with original ideas for my art during 2024, but doing redraws definitely benefited me.
2024

Main Interest at the Time: Vocaloid, Sky COTL, OCs, Closed Species
Program and Methods: IbisPaintX, Infinite Painter; Phone, Tablet; Finger, Stylus
Things I learned / Anything Notable: Kept the ball rolling, tried to return to my roots and study Vocaloid artists that inspired me but eventually went back to drawing whatever.
Inspirations: LAM, Glider
Sigh. By now I'm getting really tired of writing this (Despite opening this on December 24, I put it off) and I'm cramming everything right before the New Year. Uhh, 2024 was kind of a mixed bag? And either way, I don't have much to say about this year too .... I think this was when classes were sucking my soul away, oops. You can see it happening in December.
2025

Main Interest at the Time: OCs, Roblox (Creatures of Sonaria), Project Moon
Program and Methods: IbisPaintX; Tablet; Stylus
Things I learned / Anything Notable:
Inspirations: spatcult, Project Moon
Weirdly enough, I feel like I've gone full circle. Spatcult was an artist I admired ever since 2018, but I never had the prowess or finesse to analyze their works in 2018. But now, after getting into the Project Moon franchise and adoring it's artstyle, I've come to realize that they're stylistically very similar. ..Probably because the artist I looked up to all those years was a fan of Project Moon, and here I am obsessing over the IP now LOL I just think it's really funny.
I referred back to look at Spatcult's works around September to December and wanted to embrace the looseness and composition they create. It's like how people keep an image in a pendant to forever immortalize it or whatever.
For 2025, I think I've finally become comfortable with how I draw, even if it's removed from the clean-cut edges that I enjoy in other people's art. For most of these pieces, I didn't care about the end product, I was just doing stuff for fun again. Also the reason why everything's all over the place stylistically.
Uhh man, I wish I could be more retrospective but I feel fried after pouring my thoughts out in one sitting. I'll probably update this again with proper footnotes, references, and the like -- Maybe I will make art doodle summaries and hope to god fix the grammatical nonsense later. But for now, happy new years to whoever reads this. Let's keep enjoying what we love and refine our crafts.
